CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC POSTER ABSTRACTS

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Early stage postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates are invited to submit abstracts on any research topic relevant to the understanding, cure, treatment or care management of the genetic disease of cystinosis for inclusion at the scientific poster session of the 5th Annual Dublin Cystinosis Workshop.

In addition to presenting a scientific poster, 5-6 researchers who have submitted poster abstracts will also be invited to make a 3 minute oral presentation during Session 4 of the Workshop aimed at explaining the research presented in their poster clearly and succinctly to a non-research audience which will include people who live with cystinosis as well as their families.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

The poster presentation should be aimed at a scientific audience.

Posters will be judged on the basis of originality, scientific content, study design, and analysis of the research as well as the quality and clarity of the poster presentation.

The posters will be adjudicated by a panel of judges comprising scientists from a wide range of scientific disciplines researching various aspects of cystinosis.  You should assume that the audience will be scientifically informed but they will not necessarily be experts in the specific research area being presented.

Poster Specification

Posters must be in portrait format and should not exceed the following dimensions:

  • 1200mm high x 900mm wide (A0 graphic size)

ORAL PRESENTATION

In addition to presenting a scientific poster, 5-6 researchers will be invited by the judges to make a short 3 minute oral presentation during Session 4 of the Workshop aimed at explaining the research presented in their poster clearly and succinctly to a non-research audience which will include people who live with cystinosis as well as their families.

Oral presentations should be no more than 3 minutes long and should address the key points of the research presented in the accompanying poster.

The oral presentation should be aimed at a non-scientific audience which will include patients who and family members who are living with cystinosis.

The competition for best oral presentation will be adjudicated by panel of judges that mainly comprising patients and family members who are living with cystinosis.

THE PRIZES

Two prizes will be awarded:

  1. The Professor Roz Anderson Prize for best scientific poster,
  2. The Cystinosis Ireland Prize for best oral presentation to a non-scientific audience.

The winners of each category will win a €200 cash prize as well as an invitation to present their research at the next International Cystinosis Conference which will be held in Dublin in 2020.

Travel and subsistence costs to support their participation and attendance at the International Cystinosis Conference 2020 are included in each prize.

REMEMBERING PROFESSOR ROZ ANDERSON

The best scientific poster will be awarded by Cystinosis Ireland in memory of the late Professor Roz Anderson, University of Sunderland, who passed away earlier this year. Professor Anderson has been a long-time friend of Cystinosis Ireland and an exceptional researcher who dedicated her life to finding a cure for cystinosis.
