CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC POSTER ABSTRACTS

HOW TO APPLY?

Abstracts should be submitted as a word document and structured as follows:

  • A descriptive title in Bolded Times New Roman 12 point.
  • The initials and surname of the author(s) without titles or degrees should appear below the title.
  • The department(s), institution(s) and city(ies)/town(s) should be listed next.
  • The abstract should be of the informative type containing four paragraphs but without any subtitles or headings:
    • Specify the purpose of the study and include a brief background statement.
    • Outline the methods used, for example study design, population, statistical test(s).
    • Summarise the results of the study and include key statistical data.
    • Outline the main implication(s) of the study. It is not satisfactory, for example, to state: “results will be discussed”.
  • The abstract must not exceed 250 words – excluding the title, authors(s) name(s), address(es), and any references.
  • The text should be single spaced.
  • The font should be Times New Roman 12 Point.  The abstract may include no more than one table or figure.
  • When using abbreviations, spell out the full name on first mention. Avoid excessive use of abbreviations.
  • Up to two references can be included.
  • Potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

The poster presentation should be aimed at a scientific audience.

Posters will be judged on the basis of originality, scientific content, study design, and analysis of the research as well as the quality and clarity of the poster presentation.

The posters will be adjudicated by a panel of judges comprising scientists from a wide range of scientific disciplines researching various aspects of cystinosis.  You should assume that the audience will be scientifically informed but they will not necessarily be experts in the specific research area being presented.

Poster Specification

Posters must be in portrait format and should not exceed the following dimensions:

  • 1200mm high x 900mm wide (A0 graphic size)

ORAL PRESENTATION

In addition to presenting a scientific poster, 5-6 researchers will be invited by the scientific peer review committee to make a short 3 minute oral presentation during Session 4 of the Workshop aimed at explaining the research presented in their poster clearly and succinctly to a non-research audience which will include people who live with cystinosis as well as their families.

Oral presentations should be no more than 3 minutes long and should address the key points of the research presented in the accompanying poster.

The oral presentation should be aimed at a non-scientific audience which will include patients who and family members who are living with cystinosis.

The competition for best oral presentation will be adjudicated by panel of judges mainly comprising patients and family members who are living with cystinosis.
